Last term, we ran a photography workshop at The Boilerhouse during One Grade Higher on Monday evenings. Although skeptical to begin with, the workshop proved extremely popular with the young people who joined the workshop.

Most people today have a smartphone with a camera. Whilst these cameras can capture some great images, they do not compare to a ‘proper’ DSLR camera. During the workshop, the young people had the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with a real camera, and for many this was a totally new experience.

Through the worksphops the young people began to learn the basics of photography. Working in and around The Boilerhouse, this term they have explored the power of images to convey a message. As the saying goes – ‘a picture paints a thousand words.’

The group chose to highlight the issue of bullying and homelessness.  The workshop has been a great success and we hope to run another photography workshop next year.
